Effective managing is more than visualizing an outcome and creating a plan. Although this is an important element it is not enough. Effective managing is visualizing the outcome of a well created plan and knowing how to execute that plan all while maintaining the bright reflection of a leader. In order to effectively manage operations and people you must be a leader, you must visualize, and create plans.
They managers are leaders. A leader knows how to influence individuals to execute their role in the plan willingly. An enthused employee will be much more efficient than someone executing in fear of losing their job.
Managers doing a great job understand the importance of visualizing the outcome. This outcome is the foundation of the plan. The plan is a key element that makes and breaks managers. A lot of managers today have the skill to understand what needs to be done in any given situation, but only a fraction of those managers understand how to “work the plan”. Visualize the outcome, create the plan, and execute as a leader.
There are a lot of variables in between visualizing, planning, and executing depending on the culture and environment. Effective managers can evaluate these variables and adapt to reach the vision. One key to adapting is maintaining leadership. Adapting to situations sometimes causes leaders to become “bosses”. It is certainly ok to be the “boss” at times in fact it’s necessary however, it is not ok to lose the leader status. Be the boss and utilize the power granted sparingly. The ultimate goal is creating a developed team in which the members execute on their own will. A developed, motivated, take the initiative team is what an effective manager creates.
The people are the key to success. The people make up the team that is logically created by the manager. In order to be effective the manager must create the working team. In a production environment for example, a manager has quotas that need to be met by the end of the shift. The manager certainly can’t get there alone so the team is the key. The manager has a special skill set that enables the ability to be creative with people. Being creative with people can be extremely tricky and it takes a master mind-set. An effective manager understands what it takes to create and maintain teams that will lead to the vision.
Evaluating skills are essential to effective management. If an individual can’t evaluate situations and conduct risk assessments they can’t manage effectively. There is no argument here only fact. There are countless variables that change on a daily basis in the management world; therefore, evaluating skills are a must.
Being a leader, evaluating situations, visualizing plans, creating plans, and executing them are what effective managers know how to do and they understand why each of these elements are important.
